How to undo a bulk edit in Shopify

First: stop and find out what changed

1. Pause further edits. If an app or a scheduled import made the change, turn it off so it doesn’t run again or overwrite the evidence.
2. Check the store activity log. In your Shopify admin go to Settings → General → Store activity log. It lists recent admin actions and who made them. It shows at most 250 results and is view-only, so it tells you that something changed, not the old values.
3. Narrow down the affected products. In Products, sort by last updated, or filter by vendor, type or tag, to list the products the bulk edit touched.
4. Protect sales right now. If prices went to $0 or far too low, set those products to Draft until they’re fixed, so nobody can check out at the wrong price.

Option 1: restore from a CSV export (best if you have one)

If you (or an app) exported your products before the edit, you can put the old values back by importing that file.

1. Find the export from before the edit. Open it and confirm the prices, titles or tags are the correct old values.
2. Delete the rows for products you don’t want to touch. Everything in the file will be applied, so a smaller file is safer.
3. In Products, choose Import, select the file, and tick the option to overwrite products with matching handles.
4. Check the preview Shopify shows before you confirm. Try it with two or three products first.
5. Spot-check a few products afterwards, including their variants and compare-at prices.

Watch out: an old export also contains old values for fields you may have legitimately changed since (for example stock or new descriptions). Remove those columns or rows before importing.

Option 2: no backup? Fix it by hand, carefully

• Look for the old values elsewhere: a recent order shows the price a product sold at, your supplier price list or a Google Merchant Center feed may hold the previous price, and a cached copy of the product page sometimes shows the old title or description.
• Use the bulk editor in reverse: select the affected products, open Bulk edit, add the columns you need (price, compare-at price, tags) and correct them in one pass.
• Keep a list of every product you fix, so you can check nothing was missed.

Option 3: an app that recorded the “before”

Product history apps record each product’s previous values as changes happen, so they can put a change back without a backup file. The catch: they can only restore changes made after they were installed. They can’t recover an edit that happened before.

How to avoid this next time

• Export before every bulk edit or import. Products → Export → all products, as CSV. It takes a minute and is your undo file.
• Test on two products first, then apply to the rest.
• Double-check the column you’re editing, especially price vs. compare-at price and percentage vs. fixed amounts.
• Get alerted when something risky changes, so a mistake is caught in minutes rather than after customers notice.
